Five Poisons is a series of five soda-fired ceramic vases, each featuring one of the symbolic poisonous creatures from ancient Chinese culture: centipede, spider, snake, scorpion, and bat. Traditionally associated with danger and toxicity, these creatures also carry layered meanings of protection, wisdom, prosperity, happiness, and vitality.
Through hand-built details and atmospheric firing, the animals appear to crawl, cling, guard, or emerge from the vessels’ surfaces. The series explores the tension between fear and blessing, threat and protection, transforming these ancient symbols into living forms that inhabit the body of each vase.
