Attached was created during my undergraduate studies at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and marks my first exploration of combining magnetic force with the pink flushing effect in ceramics. Made during the pandemic, when access to gallery spaces was limited, the installation was brought into a forest near UBC, allowing the work to exist temporarily within a natural environment.
The mirrored pedestal was used to reflect and merge with the surrounding landscape, softening the boundary between the object, its support, and the forest. A pink ceramic vessel and a circular form are connected through a field of tension, suggesting an invisible pull between two separate bodies.
As an early experiment in installation, Attached reflects my interest in distance, attraction, and the unseen forces that link objects together. The work becomes a quiet study of connection: fragile, suspended, and shaped by its surroundings.

This is one of my early ceramic works created during my undergraduate studies, and marks my first experiment with pit firing on a larger vessel form. The smoky surface was shaped by the movement of fire, the burning of organic materials, and the unpredictable atmosphere of the firing process.
Rather than being fully controlled by the maker, the surface became a collaboration with natural forces. Traces of smoke, ash, and flame remain embedded in the body of the vessel, creating a surface that feels both ancient and alive.
Photographed in the forest, the work returns to an environment that echoes its making. It reflects my interest in transformation, material memory, and the quiet marks left behind by fire and time.
