“I Promise” is inspired by the familiar childhood gesture of a pinky promise. As a simple act, linking pinkies once carried an almost absolute belief: a promise would be kept because it had been spoken, sealed, and witnessed through touch.
As we grow older, however, the meaning of a promise becomes more unstable. What once felt innocent and certain begins to hold hesitation, expectation, vulnerability, and doubt. In intimate relationships, to promise is not only to guarantee an outcome, but also to expose the desire to be trusted.
In this work, ceramic hands meet through the pinky finger, forming a gesture that feels both tender and fragile. The moment of making a promise becomes more important than whether it can truly be kept. “I Promise” reflects on the emotional weight of commitment, the uncertainty within closeness, and the quiet intensity of choosing to believe someone, even for a moment.
