“Us” is a series of ceramic works that explores intimacy through material contact, pressure, and trace. Created during my graduate studies, the series marks my first attempt to apply Chrome oxide to porcelain chains and fire them in direct contact with the ceramic body.

In earlier works, I experimented with semi-suspended forms, allowing distance to produce a soft reddish cloud during firing. In this series, however, the contact becomes more immediate and intense. Where the porcelain chains touch the surface, a bruised pink-red mark emerges, creating a visual record of closeness, pressure, and transformation.

The chain functions as both connection and restraint. It holds, decorates, binds, and leaves behind evidence of its presence. Through this tension,Us” reflects on relationships beyond romance, including friendship, family, and other forms of emotional attachment. The work considers how intimacy can be tender and beautiful, but also heavy, complicated, and marked by the traces we leave on one another.

Continuing my use of hand-built ceramic chains, this work extends the language of connection onto a hollow glass form.

During the making process, the ceramic chain was wrapped around heated glass. As the glass softened and expanded through air, the chain pressed closely against its surface, allowing the two materials to shape one another temporarily. The chain appears both protective and restrictive, holding the fragile glass body while also leaving evidence of pressure and attachment.

An unexpected part of the process was that subtle textures and fingerprints from the ceramic chain were transferred onto the glass surface after firing. Rather than the central subject of the work, this became a quiet reminder of indirect touch; how one material can carry the memory of another. Through the meeting of clay and glass, this work reflects on closeness, dependence, and the marks left behind by being held.
